Climatic Requiremenet:

Moderately warm climate and temperature of 210 to 260 C is very conducive for sweet potato cultivation. It is widely grown in tropical, sub tropical and warm temperate areas, up to 2, 200 m above mean sea level. A well distributed annual rainfall of 75-150 cm is favorable for its cultivation. It can tolerate drought to some extent but cannot withstand water logging. It requires plenty of sunshine, whereas shade causes yield reduction growth is restricted in cool weather and the plants are damaged by hitting injury. Even slight frost and temperature below 100 C checks the growth and development of the tubers, Excess rainfall and long photo period encourages vine growth, reducing the yield of tubers. In Sikkim, planting of Sweet potato is generally done in July –September
